Eradicating Beard Dandruff
Beard dandruff can be an embarrassing thing every bearded man fears. No one wants to see their well-manicured beard littered with specks of white flakes, let alone see them dropping off the chin; but how do we deal with this issue?
First let’s look at the cause of beard dandruff – beard dandruff or pityriasis is caused by a variety of things, some of which include frequent over washing of the beard with a mix of cold weather, stress, and yeast called pityrosporum ovale, which lives on the skin of humans and causes the skin to flake off. So first step is to use something mild to wash the beard to avoid over drying the skin. Basically you are trying to keep the skin neutral or as the scientists call it – PH balanced. If that fails then try anti-dandruff shampoo to remove the flakes, it's best to wash with warm water so the pores are opened and cleansed a little. There are lots of different brands out there and unfortunately it’s a bit of trial and error to work out which one works for you.
Eat well and drink lots of water – yep that piece of advice again – but it really makes a difference. Skin has high water content, so it needs to be replenished. For those in doubt, beer is not water.
Remember to dry the beard well, as an additional step, you could try using something to control and moisturise the beard and the skin, We like essential oils for this and there are oodles of them in Captain Fawcett’s Beard Oil.
As for stress, well the body starts to do all kinds of weird stuff when it’s facing a challenge. So find some way to get a release - and relax. Run, jog, bike – get the wind in your beard!
